CNN’s Don Lemon To Trump Supporters: ‘You Can Go Read A History Book’

Don Lemon has one message for supporters of President Donald Trump, and they’re not going to be happy about it. Do you find this disrespectful?

CNN’s Don Lemon isn’t very happy. During an Oval Office meeting on immigration, President Donald Trump reportedly said, “Why are we having all these people from s**thole countries come here?” The president was specifically referring to certain third-world nations like Haiti and El Salvador, as well as some African countries.

In the same meeting, Trump reportedly suggested that the United States should instead welcome immigrants from countries like Norway and adopt a merit-based immigration system like Australia’s.

Donald Trump’s remarks got one news anchor particularly riled up. On his show, CNN’s Don Lemon had some choice words about the president and his supporters, Newsweekreports. In response to Trump’s comments, Lemon flatly announced, “The President of the United States is racist.”

“Those comments are frankly disgusting,” said Lemon. “They’re not shocking, not even really surprising because this is who Donald Trump is — this is what he thinks.” Among other things, Lemon told Trump supporters that they can go “read a book.”

Near the end of the program, Lemon addressed Trump’s supporters directly. “His supporters made excuses, continue to make excuses for him. Some of them are his friends, and I can hear them now, telling me, ‘Donald didn’t mean that,’ ‘Donald isn’t a racist,’ ‘I think it was taken out of context,'” he said.

“How many examples do you need of this?” asked the anchor. “But he is a racist. All of you who over the last few years have uttered that tired, lazy, uninformed, uneducated response of calling me and others who point out racist behavior ‘racists,’ you know what you can go do?”

Lemon then said, “I can’t say that,” before adding, “But you can go read a history book. Because you might learn that people from some of those ‘s**thole countries’ were slaves who were brought by force to help build this country.”

Don Lemon was not alone in his opposition to President Donald Trump’s remarks. Members of Congress who attended the meeting on immigration were “alarmed and mystified” by what he said, The New York Times reported.

Rupert Coville, who is the rights office spokesman at the United Nations, described Trump’s comments as “shocking and shameful,” as quoted by Daily Mail. Speaking to reporters in Geneva, he added, “Sorry, but there is no other word one can use but ‘racist.’ You cannot dismiss entire countries and continents as ‘s**tholes’ whose entire populations, who are not white, are therefore not welcome.”

Mia Love, who is a Republican congresswoman from Utah and is of Haitian descent, even demanded an apology from President Donald Trump.

“We always knew that President Trump doesn’t like people from certain countries or people of certain colors,” said Democratic Congressman Luis Gutierrez. “We can now say with 100 percent confidence that the president is a racist who does not share the values enshrined in our Constitution.”

President Trump’s remarks about countries like Haiti have ignited fierce debate from both sides of the aisle, with many Republicans arguing that he is doing the right thing by moving towards a merit-based immigration system.

Meanwhile, the president has denied even making the “s**thole” comment to begin with. In addition, there have been members of the meeting, where the remarks were supposedly made, who also deny that the “s**thole” comment was made

So, could all of the outrage be over something which never even happened in the first place? That’s anyone’s guess. However, it would not be the first time the public was misled by a media-manufactured narrative.
